Scottie Thompson will miss 2-3 weeks of Ginebra’s PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup campaign due to a swollen left knee.

BARANGAY Ginebra expects Scottie Thompson to be ready for its Christmas Day game against TNT in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Coach Tim Cone said the former MVP will be out for two to three weeks, but sees him playing on Dec. 25 when the reigning champions battle the Tropang Giga at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Thompson hurt his left leg when big man Bradywyn Guinto landed on it during a mad scramble for the ball in the Kings’ game against Blackwater last week.

Thompson underwent MRI scanning the following day and fortunately for him and Ginebra, no structural damage was found, according to Cone.

“He’ll be ready by Christmas. That’s for sure,” Cone said.

“(He) better be. Or else I’ll injure him myself,” he added in jest.

While he did finish the game against the Bossing, Thompson sat out Sunday night’s 110-99 win over Terrafirma Dyip.

“Initial diagnosis from Doc (George) Canlas is 2-3 weeks minimum,” said Cone.

But the do-it-all guard could be back even earlier, according to Cone, as Thompson is known to be a quick healer.

Head coach Tim Cone bared as much after the Kings played without the former PBA MVP.

Thompson joined the team at the Philsports Arena but was in street clothes, missing a game for the first time since the 2021 Philippine Cup due to COVID.

The 30-year old guard got hurt during the second quarter of their eventual 90-87 win over Blackwater last November 26.

Being out for the said time frame could make him miss around three games against Phoenix Super LPG, San Miguel, and Meralco.

Thompson had played in all of their first four games of the season and averaged 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and a steal.
